Community Supper is returning to Acton. A group of volunteers previously involved in Community Supper, and others, have been working together for a few months to revive the Supper, now known as Mt. Calvary Community Supper. Their efforts have resulted in a plan to hold the Supper at located at 472 Massachusetts Ave (Rt 111), starting in April. There is great enthusiasm from the church, the volunteers, and anyone who is learning of this community asset being brought back to life. Everyone is welcome to join their friends and neighbors for a tasty supper, free of charge.
Mt. Calvary has provided some startup funds, an application has been made to Acton-Boxborough United Way as part of its regular funding process, and an application is underway to partner with Project Bread, the state’s leading antihunger organization.
Many volunteers who were involved before have signed up to resume their places, but many more volunteers are needed. People usually volunteer once a month, often as part of a team. The teams set up, cook, serve the meal, and clean up. Substitutes are also needed to ensure the full roster of 20 people is on hand to keep the operation running smoothly. Groups are welcome and encouraged to sign up for a consistent time.

The first Supper will be held on Wednesday, April 11th from 5:00 – 6:00 PM and will feature Italian Night with antipasto, spaghetti and meatballs. Two weeks later on April 25th the menu will be beef stroganoff with noodles, carrots and salad. Of course, this is subject to variations in availability and sales on products. The Supper will run every two weeks through July 11th and every Wednesday after that. The slower startup period will allow the team to iron out the kinks. A website is in the works.
