Evidence Against New Senior Center Piles Up
The proposal to build a new Senior Center/Community Center continues to have problems that the SCBC has not addressed.

The evidence against proceeding on a new Senior Center continues to pile up.
A recent survey of seniors by the COA received just 194 responses during the month of January 2012, or less than 5% of Acton's 3,900 senior population. (See attachment for Survey Results).
Of those who responded, about half use the Senior Center less than once per week and only 14 used it on a daily basis.

In the survey, about 25% wanted a combined Senior Center/Community Center. About 20% wanted a Senior Center only. About 15% did not want a new building at all. There is obviously no consensus yet on this issue, yet the Senior Center Building Committee (SCBC) continues at full speed with Town Meeting just eight weeks away.
One theme that continues to be heard is that seniors want a space for themselves. This was expressed loud and clear at a recent meeting that the SCBC held at the Senior Center, attended by about 20 seniors....
