Great Blues at Acton Jazz Cafe
Great blues at the Acton Jazz Cafe every thursday evening.
Every Thursday the AJC hosts a blues jam. Things get going about 8:30 PM when the house band plays for about thirty minutes. People wanting to jam and play a few songs sign up on a list. The host for the night, usually a member of the house band, organizes musicians to play three or four songs. They make an effort to pair one or more guitars, bass guitar, drums, keys and vocals. If there are keyboard players or horn players, they get paired up too. If they are missing players, members of the house band can sit in.
Some great musicians show up to play. Most of the music is up-tempo blues, R&B, some R&R, maybe a little jazz. Most is good to dance to and by 9 or 9:30, the place is usually packed and everybody is having a good time.
I go there every few weeks to sit in on the drums. Almost always have a good time and usually get to play some cool songs with some very good musicians.

I usually don't eat there but do on occasion and would say the food is just OK. Most people agree. But the priority at the AJC is the music. They have a full bar and are making some of the fancier martinis and other drinks.
If you like the blues, or play an instrument and want to jam, come on by. People start signing up early at about 8 PM and it's first come first serve for the most part. So if you want to get on stage early, sign up early.
