This may be one of the most important statements you ever read from me. Fruit is thought of as part of the holy grail of food touted by Drs Oz, Ornish and Bernard, to name a few.

 Ashton Kutcher recently revealed he suffered pancreatic problems brought on by eating an all-fruit diet adopted in preparation to play the character of Steve Jobs in the upcoming film “Jobs.” Steve Jobs died of pancreatic cancer in 2011-details in full article.

 Fruits are full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, which is why it is recommended by many to eat 5 fruits a day, but there is a downside. A small amount of them is fine for healthy people. However, the high fructose content of fruit can be a serious problem.

Research suggests fructose may have a particularly significant impact on pancreatic cancer, as pancreatic cancer cells have been shown to use fructose for cell division, speeding up the growth and spread of the cancer.

Fructose is preferentially metabolized to fat in your liver, and eating large amounts has been linked to negative metabolic and endocrine effects. So eating large amounts or nothing but fruit – can logically increase your risk of a number of health conditions, from insulin and leptin resistance to cancer.

People forget that fruit is a source of fructose. Many tend to believe that because fruit is natural and raw they can have unlimited quantities without experiencing any adverse metabolic effects.

Coming from a diet of processed foods and soda, which contain lots of high fructose corn syrup and changing to an all-fruit diet is probably not going to improve your health.  

Just the other day Dr Oz had a show featuring the Myth of Cholesterol, a book that’s been out for a number of years and is on my website. Since he comes from a vegetarian bias, he recommends fruit, but may be changing his tune.

As Dr Mercola says in the full article, Keep in mind that emerging evidence is emerging that suggests your diet should be at least half healthy fat, and possibly as high as 70 percent. Dr Mercola’s diet is about 60-70 percent healthy fat, and if you know what he looks like, he is very slim, muscular and healthy.  It's important to understand that your body requires saturated fats from animal and vegetable sources (such as meat, dairy, certain oils, and tropical plants like coconut) for optimal functioning. I also eat a similar diet and I am hardly overweight. I feel great all the time and have the energy to do serious workouts leaving me in great shape for an old lad of 64. When you eat this way, you don’t crave carbs or sugar, and therefore, you eat less and avoid the problems associated with sugar and fructose. Generally, total fructose consumption should amount to 25 grams of fructose per day. If you have any sugar related health issues, such as insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, obesity or cancer, limit your total fructose consumption to 15 grams of fructose per day.
