How to Spend Tax Money - Early Results from the Acton 2020 Strategies Meeting

Here are the results from the Nov 9 "Strategies for Act(i)on" meeting, where residents were asked which of a few high-cost items they would want some of their tax dollars spent on.

Thank you to the many of you that showed up at the Nov 9 Strategies for Act(i)on meeting. The first results of that meeting are ready. There are some additional ways Acton residents can help to improve the plan, and more results will be published soon.

On Nov 9, feedback was requested in three areas:

  1. Prioritizing and commenting on the action items
  2. Voting with “Acton Dollars” to sort out the relative priorities of a handful of the more expensive action items.
  3. Responding to a burning question for each of the 7 goals

For part 1, we welcome additional comments from anyone on the action items. Here's a website where you can create an account, review the goals, objectives, strategies, and action items, and comment on any or all of them:

Comments this week would be especially welcome, when the committee starts sorting out the meaning of the feedback we have received.  The results of part 2, the money exercise, are now available.  Participants were given 5 $20 bills representing possible uses for their annual tax money, and asked to distribute the money between 6 ballot boxes:

The ‘Piggy Bank’ item was present to allow people to express a preference to hang on to their dollars, rather than be taxed to pay for any of these. You can learn more about what all these items mean by looking at the Nov 9 presentation materials

Thank you so much for your continued involvement with the development of this comprehensive community plan for Acton. More results from this meeting will be posted soon. You can always get the latest news at our website: acton2020.info
