League of Women Voters to Host Public Regionalization Forum

The Acton-Area League of Women Voters is hosting a public forum on October 30th at 7:30 PM in Room 204 of the Acton Town Hall on School Regionalization.

The Acton-Area League of Women Voters is hosting a public forum on October 30th at 7:30 PM in Room 204 of the Acton Town Hall on School Regionalization.

A committee has been working since last fall to investigate the pros and cons of regionalizing all of the Acton and Boxborough schools from Kindergarten through Grade 6 together with the existing regional schools system grades 7 through 12. This plan will be presented to Town Meetings in both Acton and Boxborough in the spring. Both towns must vote to approve the plan if it is to take effect.

Regionalization is a complex issue with educational benefits for students and potential areas for saving money as well as generating additional state aid, but it does represent a significant change.

The forum will have a short presentation of the existing regional agreement for Grades 7-12 and then move on to the proposal for the expanded regional school district.  There will be ample time to provide the committee with feedback about the proposal before they revise the Regional Agreement.  This forum is the starting point for that process.

This is not only an educational issue but also a financial one that will impact everyone in both towns---not just those will school-aged children.

Do attend, have your questions answered and perhaps have an impact on the final regionalization agreement.
