Mullin Field

I'm not a sports guy. But Acton is a sports-crazy town. I think kids start playing soccer before they can walk and they are on the hockey ice before they can talk.

Sporting activities are great for kids. It is good exercise and it keeps them out of trouble. For many, it is a welcome break from school pressures and adolescence. It is an essential part of a good education.

A few years ago, we turned the high school field into an artificial turf field. Called Leary Field, this project was a huge undertaking. It required putting together private fundraising, CPA funding, and school funding. Before it was done, I'm sure many thought it would be impossible.

And it probably would have been impossible if these three constituencies had not been brought together. Each one had to have competing demands on their time and money. The coordination effort alone must have been daunting....
