Senior Center Study Shows Decrease In Peak Usage

New study by the Senior Center Building Committee shows decreased peak usage at the Senior Center in 2011 compared to 2008.

Two recent studies of attendance at showed decreased peak usage compared to the 2009 study that recommending building a new Senior Center.

The 2009 study cited 23 instances over eight weeks in which usage exceeded parking capacity. While the study also showed the potential of expanding parking, it concluded that attendance was likely to increase in the coming years and that a new Senior Center should be built.

The Senior Center Building Committee (SCBC) was formed in July, 2011, to implement this plan. Despite questions raised by myself that the 2009 report did not justify a new Senior Center, the SCBC continued to proceed and will now be requesting $140,000 for design plans at this April's annual Town Meeting.

The SCBC just released two studies of attendance in 2011, neither of which justify going forward. Both studies showed decreased "peak" usage, which contradicts the prediction that usage would increase.
