State Cultural Grants Benefit Local Cultural Community

The Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) recently awarded grants totaling $37,720 to cultural organizations and communities in the 37^th Middlesex District. The grants support a variety of cultural activities that benefit local residents.

Ensuring all residents have access to the arts and educational programs is a great service to our communities and I am thrilled that the MCC recognized the important role our Cultural Councils and the awardees play in enriching our communities.

The grants were part of MCC’s $8 million statewide investment in the nonprofit cultural sector. Local recipients awarded grants include the district’s five Cultural Councils, as well as Arts Are Essential, Inc. and the Discovery Museums, both in Acton and the Worcester Chamber Music Society in Harvard. The grants came as part of the statewide Cultural Investment Portfolio and Local Cultural Council Programs. 

The Cultural Investment Portfolio comprises 394 nonprofit arts, humanities, and science organizations across Massachusetts. These organizations connect children and adults to theatre, music, visual arts, and film; teach them about history, literature, and the natural environment; and introduce them to new languages and cultures. 

Local Cultural Councils (LCCs) make up the most extensive public cultural funding network in the nation. They provide funding to every Massachusetts city and town through 329 local councils and more than 2,300 volunteers. The councils support local arts and history, fund school field trips, and sponsor local concerts and exhibitions.
