This rain or shine event will be held on Saturday, June 20th from 4:30-8:30pm at our headquarters at Stonefield Farm in Acton. There will be hayrides, farm tours, a raffle with fantastic prizes, live music, *food, complimentary festive beverages and more. 

This is a free event open to all. Whether you’re a long-time supporter or new to The Gleaners, we can’t wait to celebrate with you.

*You will be able to purchase delicious food catered by the iCater Team at Pine Street Inn. All beverages (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic options) are complimentary!

*Parking at Stonefield Farm will be reserved for those who require accessible parking accommodations. You will be asked to indicate your parking needs as part of the ticket reservation process, or feel free to reach out to outreach@bostonareagleaners.org. All other attendees may park at the Jones Field Playground (a 3 minute walk to Stonefield Farm) or at the South Acton MBTA train station (a 5 minute walk to Stonefield Farm). There will also be an on-demand shuttle from the train station if needed.

Come and worship with us on Sunday, May 17th, at 9:30am. During this Seventh Sunday of Easter, as we welcome guest preacher Rev. Bekah Anderson&nbsp;to the pulpit. She will lead us in a service full of prayer, scripture, reflection, and inspiration.Bekah serves as Mental Health Pastoral Fellow for the Southern New England Conference of the UCC and is a queer, disabled writer, activist, and theologian passionate about creating communities where everyone belongs.

She’ll preach on widening our welcome and what it means to become a truly Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, and Engaged (WISE) congregation around mental health.

We also welcome special music from Ken Feit on banjo and a piece by the ACC Bell Choir.

The Acton Historical Society invites you to tour the 1760 Jonathan Hosmer House and to view a collection of artifacts associated with Acton's history. The Concord Orchestra presents “The Heavenly Life” at 8:00pm on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17 at 2:30pm at the Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden. The orchestra, conducted by Music Director Zeke Fetrow, performs Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with Ann Moss as soprano soloist. A pre-concert talk is scheduled for 7:15pm on Saturday.
Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 is a comparatively short work, lasting less than an hour. The final movement of the symphony is a song “The Heavenly Life”with orchestral accompaniment, sung by a soprano. The words, which come from German folk poetry, are about a child’s naïve view of heaven.
In the three movements that lead up to this song, there are many pleasant tunes and the cozy sound of sleigh bells, but there are disquieting passages as well. For example, the second movement is a lively scherzo, but the principal violin plays an eerie solo that represents the devil’s fiddle. The moving third movement contrasts the serenity of heaven with the struggles of earthly life.
Soprano Ann Moss is an acclaimed recording artist, chamber musician, and champion of living composers. She has been a featured soloist with San Francisco Symphony, SF Chamber Orchestra, UC Berkeley Symphony, SF Contemporary Music Players, Music of Remembrance, and the Ives, Alexander, Lydian and Hausmann String Quartets.

During this one day workshop you will explore the lushness of acrylic paints. Drawing and painting on paper is a fresh and direct way to bring intuition and spontaneity to your artmaking. Kathy will demonstrate on paper with a wide variety of brushes, paint, and drawing materials. She will thoughtfully guide you through exercises to flex your imagination and encourage both subtle and dynamic mark making.&nbsp;&nbsp;We will use a variety of brushes and drawing materials on paper. Starting with drawing as the foundation for structure, we will&nbsp; layer with paint as the process begins and explore line and color, both wet and dry, to create your unique image.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;About the Instructor -&nbsp; Kathy Deflice-Secor
The creative process is an involuntary act: it sustains and liberates me.
My Images emerge as a response to life.&nbsp;&nbsp; Time, memory, and my environment influence my work.&nbsp;&nbsp; It is in the doing, the process that I navigate these responses; by creating space with line, color, and form.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; My work is my visual diary: related, obscure, unique, and personal.

These papers area available in pads in both Hot or Cold press. &nbsp;During the workshop I will be using the Arches Aquarelle Pad,&nbsp;Size 11.69X16.53 &nbsp;12 sheets Hot Press 140lb&nbsp;&nbsp;Brushes &amp; Palette Knives:
<ul><li>Kathy's brushes are all soft and synthetic water/acrylic brushes. These give the surface a smooth lush surface while blending. &nbsp;</li><li>1” wash style brushes - if you have more than one bring them.&nbsp;</li><li>Kathy also uses larger brushes from 2-3" inches those are also synthetic and soft.&nbsp;</li><li>Palette knives are great way to open up areas on your surface. They bring variety and dimension to your image.&nbsp;</li></ul>
Drawing Materials:
<ul><li>Colored pencils</li><li>Crayons water soluble or not</li><li>Water soluble graphite pencils. Derwent Graphite water soluble pencils are wonderful.&nbsp;</li><li>Example 2B 4B 6B and 8B this is the softest allowing a rich dark velvety mark.&nbsp;</li></ul>
Acrylic Paint:
<ul><li>Kathy uses Golden and Liquitex brands&nbsp;</li><li>Have on hand your full palette. With so many varieties of colors and formulas to chose from it can be over whelming.&nbsp;</li><li>There is no set traditional palette. &nbsp;Have on hand a variety of warm and cool dark and light colors and white.</li><li>Kathy will be using soft and heavy body along with fluid paints and mediums.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>No need to bring mediums Kathy will supply this for you. &nbsp;&nbsp;</li></ul>

Curiosity and Creativity: A Nature Journaling Workshop with award-winning book illustrator Sarah S. BrannenSaturday, May 23, 10AM-12PM
Keeping a nature journal helps people connect with the natural world in direct and personal ways. Drawing sharpens observational skills. Careful notes add scientific value. Writing adds context and richness. The workshop begins with a look at the new book Monarch and Mourning Cloak: A Butterfly Journal, by Melissa Stewart and Sarah Brannen, which is in the form of an elaborate nature journal, followed by a brief history of nature journaling and demonstrations of different types. Then, the hands-on activity will include small blank notebooks and objects to draw. We start with the date, time, place and additional details, and discuss close observation. Participants may spend more time writing prose or poetry than drawing if they prefer.
Bring pens and pencils to sketch with, and colored pencils and watercolors if you like to use them. We’ll go outside if weather permits.

About the Instructor: Sarah S. Brannen is the author and illustrator of more than two dozen books for children. She is the illustrator of the Sibert Honor book&nbsp;Summertime Sleepers,written by Melissa Stewart, and the author of&nbsp;Uncle Bobby's Wedding,&nbsp;illustrated by Lucia Soto.&nbsp;Uncle Bobby's Wedding&nbsp;was named one of the 100 best children's books of the last 100 years by Booktrust in the UK.&nbsp; &nbsp; ​Recent books include Lolly on the Ice,&nbsp;about an anxious little figure skater and&nbsp;Monarch and Mourning Cloak,&nbsp;also written by&nbsp;Melissa Stewart. &nbsp; Sarah also wrote and illustrated&nbsp;A Perfect Day,&nbsp;Bear Needs Help,&nbsp;Madame Martine, and&nbsp;Madame Martine&nbsp;Breaks the Rules.&nbsp;She&nbsp;illustrated&nbsp;Seashells: More Than a Home&nbsp;and the ALA Notable Book&nbsp;Feathers: Not Just For Flying, which won the Riverby Award and the Crystal Kite Award. Her books have been translated into 12 languages.
