Carrie Morgridge, Chief Disruptor of the Morgridge Family Foundation Speaks at Annual Spring Inspiration Breakfast

Author and nationally renowned philanthropist, Carrie Morgridge spoke at the Wellesley Country Club on Thursday, April 28, 2016 as keynote speaker for the Foundation for MetroWest’s third annual Spring Inspiration Breakfast—a celebration of youth and philanthropy. Carrie is the Chief Disruptor of the Morgridge Family Foundation and founder of the Student Support Foundation—creating youth philanthropy clubs that teach students that small gifts, given properly, do matter. Carrie shared the inspiring story of her family’s tradition of philanthropy and the unique vision and success of her organization. The Breakfast was co-chaired by Weston resident and long-time supporter of the Foundation, Patty Sins, and her daughter Whitney Sins.

At the Breakfast, Needham resident Clair Windsor was honored with the Young Philanthropist Award for her spirit of volunteerism and philanthropic engagement in a wide-range of local charitable causes, most notably Needham-based nonprofit, Circle of Hope. Additionally, Sudbury teen Jacob Goorno of Middlesex School was recognized for his involvement in the Foundation for MetroWest’s Youth in Philanthropy program at both The Fenn School and Middlesex School.

For nearly 20 years, the Foundation has worked closely with local youth, educating them about the importance of giving back to their community through its Youth in Philanthropy program. Since inception, over 1,100 students have participated awarding more than $1 million to local youth-serving nonprofits–making its Youth in Philanthropy program one of the largest in the country.

“Philanthropy education for the next generation is critical to the future health of our communities,” said Patty Sins, Event Committee Co-Chair and Youth in Philanthropy parent at the Breakfast. "The Foundation for MetroWest plays an important role in providing that education through its Youth in Philanthropy program and wants to do even more to ensure that all MetroWest teens—even those living in our most underserved cities and towns—have the opportunity to participate in this valuable, life-changing experience.”

The Foundation will be offering its Summer Institute for Youth Leadership in June and July, and semester-long programs in the fall and spring.
