Code Wiz Completes First "Code for a Cause"
Ten finalists, kids ages 6-12, solve real world problems using coding skills
Code Wiz of Westford recently held their inaugural “Code for a Cause” event, a day dedicated to solving real world problems using coding skills.
The "Code for a Cause" event at Code Wiz Westford (9 Cornerstone Square) gave children ages 7-12 the chance to put their coding skills to help area nonprofit organizations. Last summer, Code Wiz students learned how to create their own mobile applications (apps), and finalists were chosen to compete in “Code for a Cause” in late September. The finalists worked hard to research how to use coding to solve a problem for social good, and then presented their findings to the audience, who then voted on which project touched them the most.
According to Code Wiz owner Ruth Agbaji, “All the Code Wiz kids worked incredibly hard to do more than code and program: they showed bravery and integrity while demonstrating how to solve real world problems using their skills.” Code Wiz business associate Megan Conversano adds, “This was an amazing experience. I felt moved by each kid, whether they won a prize or not, who showed confidence as they stood in front of more than 40 people and shared their ideas about how to make the world better. Each and every Code Wiz kid teaches us something new every day, too.”
