The Boxborough Police Department has announced a Traffic Safety Blitz for the spring and summer.

ACTON, MA—If you have to head out to Boxborough, you are going to want to put the cell phone away and stay under the speed limit.

The Boxborough Police Department announced a Traffic Safety blitz Wednesday, which will focus on distracted and impaired driving as prom season and summer get underway. The goal is to encourage safety among drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

"As we begin to see more vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic out on the roads, we want to reinforce safety tips and laws to ensure that all of our residents remain safe," Chief Warren Ryder said in a statement. "Please consider the tips provided and remember to always share the road and to never drive while distracted or impaired."

Boxborough Police offered the following tips to prevent distracted driving.

• Turn your phone off and put it where you can’t reach it before driving.

• Let your friends and family know that you’ll be driving and can’t take their call/text.

• Pull over to a safe place if you have to make a call or send a text.

• Start GPS navigation or review maps before you start driving.

• Remember to buckle up! Seat belts are your best defense against a distracted driver.
