An Evening with Jim Hurst - renowned bluegrass guitarist

The Real School of Music invites you to an evening with renowned bluegrass guitarist Jim Hurst on Thursday, 5/24/12 7p-9p. $10/$5 members

Jim Hurst was influenced by the finger-style playing of Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed and has played with musical greats including Trisha Yearwood, Travis Tritt, the McCarter Sisters, Sara Evans, Rob Ickes, David Grisman, Claire Lynch and The Front Porch String Band and Missy Raines. He has three solo recordings and his latest 2012 release Intrepid, which exhibits his deft guitar work and soothing vocals.

Going strong on his own, Jim Hurst combines savvy guitar picking, broad vocal range and a musical eclecticism culminating in jaw-dropping performances. Steeped in bluegrass and country music, Hurst embraces these genres but goes beyond their musical boundaries to create music both complex and sublime. His dexterous guitar work and pleasing vocals can lead you down a path of a lovely ballad, get your feet stomping to a train song and ultimately leave you spellbound….in just one medley!
