Spirit of Acton 1775 - 1861

Visit the Past with the Spirit of Acton – 1775 & 1861 Patriots Day celebration, April 16th, 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Take a Patriots Day Trolley to three historic sites and experience pre-Revolutionary War and Civil War era life. The popular Patriots Day Trolleys are running continuous loops down Main Street, starting at Town Hall and stopping at the , , and .  From the Town Hall hub, visitors can also tour the Acton Woman’s Club Federal home and the Acton Memorial Library’s “ Not Afraid to Go” war-time exhibit. Parking is available behind Town Hall, 472 Main Street, and behind the Center Fire House. Parking is sparse near the historic sites, hence the Trolley service.

For the Patriots Day Trolley celebration, the Acton Historical Society (AHS) and Iron Work Farm in Acton, Inc. (IWF) are bringing together a host of re-enactors and historical interpreters.

At the AHS  Hosmer House, 300 Main Street, Colonial re-enactors welcome guests with demonstrations of military drill, smithing, basketmaking and hearth-cooking.

 IWF welcomes you to 1861: Civil War era comes to life with Yankees camped at Jones Tavern, 128 Main Street:  the 28th Massachusetts of Meagher’s Irish Brigade await a train, Mrs Lucinda Fletcher’s parlor opens for guests; on the hillside at Faulkner Homestead, 5 High Street, the Confederate 12th Georgia, Army of Northern Virginia pitches their tents - peek at military life, while the farmers tend fields, barns and livestock.
