Some Acton elementary school PTOs are asking parents to act like lemmings and attend the upcoming Town Meeting to support the schools. ("The more parents of school-aged children who attend, the more likely the school budget will pass.") If a lot of parents attend and don't bother to listen to the facts, they may vote overwhelmingly to approve the school assessment in spite of obvious problems that everyone seems to see but the School Committee and the PTO Chairs.
The PTO email and at least one PTO website contain inaccuracies which sound to me like talking points fed to them by the school administration. Equal time to opposing viewpoints was not given in these communications (I have requested it from the three elementary PTOs that I could find emails for; let's see if anyone responds positively. If they do, I will update this page in acknowledgement.)
I am very troubled that school resources are used to lobby parents to support school budgets at Town Meeting. That is a clear conflict of interest and a wrong use of taxpayer resources and funding....
