LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Thank You for Your Support

Selectman Janet Adachi was re-elected at Annual Town Election on Tuesday.

My re-election on March 26 to the Board of Selectmen was a team effort, for which I would like to acknowledge the contributions of the team members and offer my profound thanks to:

  • The voters who supported me on Election Day, including the many who hosted my campaign signs and sometimes went to great lengths to be sure the signs were safe from the ravages of the snowplow during a rather snowy campaign season.
  • Nancy Tavernier and Jon Benson, my stalwart campaign coordinators, who planted, removed, dug out and re-planted signs before and after recurring snowstorms; held signs for hours in the bitter cold; and never wavered in their belief that I would see a second term.
  • Mike Kreuze, my webmaster, who created JanetAdachi.com for my first campaign in 2010, and transformed it into an essential player in the 2013 campaign, with technical innovations and frequently refreshed content.
  • Those who shared their wisdom, provided words of encouragement, provided letters of support, endorsed me in e-mails to their friends, and held signs on Saturdays at the transfer station and Kelley’s Corner, and at the polling places on Election Day.
  • The Democratic Town Committee, Senior Center, Green Acton and League of Women Voters, who hosted candidate forums and helped my fellow candidates and me reach out more easily to Acton residents.
  • My fellow candidates who kept me on my toes and also made possible a civil, collegial and issues-focused campaign season.
  • My husband, Jim Gado, who was a steady, enthusiastic presence throughout the campaign, and demonstrated a remarkable tolerance for cold weather on Election Day, when he spent long hours holding signs at Conant School and the Junior High.
  • My 91-year-old mother, who followed my campaign enthusiastically via my website during the weeks that I didn’t visit her; and my late father, the resourceful Wyoming boy who came up from nothing and gave me so much more than he ever will realize.

Now, back to preparing for 2013 Town Meeting, where I hope to see many residents!
