Local rowers to rake leaves and do Fall cleanups as fundraiser
Get your yard cleaned up this Fall and help local rowers raise funds.

The Bromfield-Acton-Boxborough Rowing Team will conduct its annual “Rent a Rower” leaf raking and Fall cleanup for local homeowners during the first two weekends of November. Acton-Boxborough High School student-athletes are available to help your yard get ready for winter by offering leaf raking and general yard pickup services to Acton and Boxborough residents.
Leaf raking crews can be hired by the hour, with discounts for larger yards, and will come as a team of four (three crew members and an adult supervisor) to rake as hard as they row and get your yard looking great before the snow comes. Crews will have leaf blowers and will put your leaves in a pile for curbside pickup if you don’t have woods. Interested homeowners must make reservations in advance, with last year’s event selling out their services, so sign up early. You can book your reservation online at www.BareHillRowing.com/raking. If you have questions, wish to discuss any specific issues with your yard, or you have other easy tasks the kids can do in your yard if they have time, feel free to email organizer Chris Winsor at relationshipmanager@barehillrowing.com, or see the website for more details.
The cost for the first hour is only $120, with each half-hour thereafter at $60. Remember, this includes three rowers and one adult supervisor, so most 3/4-acre yards (and smaller) can be cleaned up and looking good in just one hour. Larger yards or those with lots of shrubbery may require 1.5 or 2 hours, so reserve the time you think your yard needs. You do not need to be home but you should leave payment for the crew if you won’t be available, as the service must be paid upon completion.
Yards in Acton will be done on the weekend of November 8-9. If there is rain over that weekend, jobs may be rescheduled to the weekend of November 15-16.
Funds raised go to support the Bare Hill Rowing Association, the sponsor of the team. The team competes in several local regattas and each season’s High School Championship, as well as several regattas out-of-state. Last year, several BAB rowers represented their team in California at the National Junior Championships sponsored by USRowing.
Since the team is not sponsored by either high school, they must raise all funds through parent and community donations and student fundraising. The leaf raking fundraiser is a great way for our local student-athletes to donate their time to help their team purchase and repair their equipment. We hope you can participate by signing up for our “Rent a Rower” Fall yard cleanup this year. Bromfield-AB Rowing thanks Harvard Outdoor Power Equipment for sponsoring this event.
