Students of all ages can enrich their lives with classes at Middlesex Community College. Through Community Education and Training (CET) programs at Middlesex, students ranging from senior adults ages 55+ to children and teens ages 8 to 17 can take a variety of courses that meet their needs. MCC’s College for Kids summer programs run from July 6 through August 19.
“College for Kids promotes learning through creative expression, keeping students engaged and having fun while exploring topics they enjoy,” said Judy Burke, MCC’s Executive Director of Institutional Advancement. “Taking advantage of these programs at your local community college will have long lasting benefits for your child, including building them up with important knowledge and skills, and inspiring in them a love of lifelong learning.”

A leader of award-winning online education for 21 years, MCC provides informative, interactive and immersive online classes to keep kids engaged throughout. Middlesex has transitioned the majority of College for Kids offerings to online formats for summer 2021. MCC’s Summer Theatre Camp for young performers ages 8 to 17 will be in person at the college’s Richard and Nancy Donahue Academic Arts Center in Lowell.
Even at home, College for Kids participants work on hands-on projects, led by public school teachers and expert professionals. Whether designing their own website, taking photos, or working with art materials to learn new techniques, students learn by working on projects themselves.
Other exciting topics include fashion design, baking cakes and cupcakes, creative writing, Dungeons and Dragons, film production and editing, and an introduction to veterinary science.
“Students who participated in last year’s College for Kids online programs really enjoyed the experience,” said Lauren Ellis, MCC’s Program Manager for CET. “Parents reached out to tell us how effective our online learning platforms were, and how much they appreciated keeping their children busy and engaged for a few hours a day. All of the topics covered in our classes can lead to new hobbies and passions that students can appreciate for years to come.”
College for Kids features seven weeks of half day programs that run from 8:30 a.m. to noon, or 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students who participate can explore future careers, learn new skills, meet new friends, boost their self-confidence, and follow a regular routine.
