Mt. Calvary Community Supper of Acton Honors Michael Tobia
A Special Surprise for the the man who pours his heart and soul into making the only community supper in Acton a success.

On February 15th Mike Tobia, Chairman of Mt. Calvary Community Supper began his usual Wednesday dinner preparations. Always beginning earlier in the day, he assumed the night would be all about the Valentine’s Day Celebration that the volunteers would be creating for the dinner guests. Little did he know that after he entered the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church there was a small contingent of merrymakers changing the entry signs to announce that he was to be fêted that night.
The dining room was festively set with hearts, flowers and special placemats. The loyal cooks, Carol Graton and Betty Andrews, diligently began preparations to serve 100 people without letting Mike see the additional food being prepared. When he suggested the meal service begin the cooks slyly balked pretending they were not ready. And when he was searching for the dessert to be prepared he was told there was a hold up but not to worry – it would be there when needed.
Mike was becoming itchy to begin the meal! What he did not know was that his entire family was about to enter the dining room totally unannounced. For those who know Mike, it is not easy to keep any secret from him. BUT IT WORKED!

What a wonderful night. Mike’s family gathered in the hallway as Betty presented a gift and words of kindness to the man whose dedication and commitment to the Supper is unyielding. On the trophy was written, “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer.” Truer words have never been spoken, for without Mike Mt. Calvary Community Supper would not be the same. His leadership ensures that all who come to Supper are welcomed with respect and dignity while being served a nutritious meal. Thank you, Mike, for sharing yourself with all of us.
