Mt. Calvary Community Supper of Acton Is Making a Difference in the Lives of Many
A gift of love can come in many forms and provide sustenance and a feeling of belonging to a community.
Mt. Calvary Community Supper of Acton Strives to Alleviate Hunger and Social Isolation with Your Help
For many of us who have been in Acton for a long time, we remember the former weekly community supper, which was served at the Congregational Church and other local churches before that. The former community supper was a part of a combined local food pantry and community supper organization. That organization was not able to continue the community supper program and ceased its operations 5 years ago. One year after the weekly community supper closing, several individuals, understanding the large void in the community, with the assistance of the Acton Boxboro United Way, and the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, started another community supper in town. The new Mt. Calvary Community Supper, located at 472 Massachusetts Ave, started serving its weekly meal program in April 2012, and has served over 15,000 meals since then. 80 volunteers are dedicated to preparing and serving guests a nutritious meal to all those in need in a welcoming, congenial atmosphere of mutual respect every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm. Guests are always so appreciative of the dinner and compassion shown by all the staff and share their thoughts for others in need to know. Why I Come: “Isolation can be overwhelming.” “Living alone is lonely.” “One of my only homemade hot meals” “Supper supplements my fixed income.” What I Value: “Community Spirit, Fellowship, Camaraderie” “Great food that is tasty and healthy” “Friendly smiles and welcoming servers and staff” “Social interaction with other people” “Chatting with new friends and eating together.”
As a non-profit organization, Mt Calvary Community Supper sincerely appreciates sponsorship from charities, religious groups, scouts, students and local businesses. As our number of guests grows, Mt. Calvary Community Supper is also seeking your support. Should you, individually or with a group of friends, wish to recognize a loved one, please consider donating a unique gift of love by joining Mt. Calvary Community Supper in the fight to alleviate hunger and social isolation for our neighbors in need. $25 will provide ten guests a hot dinner. An entire night’s supper for all who come can be provided for $250. A wonderful example of this gift of love happened March 2nd when Joy and Chip Agule honored their daughter Jenna who had passed away 5 years ago. Joy, Chip and their supporters from One Angel Foundation formed a service project team to sponsor, provide, cook, and serve the entire meal for the night to celebrate Jenna’s birthday. Over 100 meals were provided. What a beautiful testament of love. Please join us so together we can make a difference in the lives of all who come. Thank you so much for your support.
