Oktoberfest cancelled

West Acton's Oktoberfest celebration has been cancelled.

The Oktoberfest, a West Acton tradition for 21 years, has been cancelled.

Originally run by Peter “Skip” Kennedy, the owner of a local market/convenience store, the event drew thousands of local residents and kids of all ages to a wide variety of food, entertainment, children’s games, and dozens of community organizations.

Kennedy sold his market in 2010 which was then renamed “Red, White and Brew” and now sells liquors as well as convenience items. The event was then organized by the managers of the local Middlesex Savings Bank.

The day was often kicked off by a 5K race, sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce, whose course ran through West Acton streets. The race has been moved to NARA Park and will take place this year on Saturday, September 13, starting at 10:45 am. It has been named the “Dash ‘n Bash 5k Run/Walk” and is sponsored by the Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce...
