Parkinson's Disease Foundation Presents National Online Seminar on Occupational Therapy and Parkinson's: Tips for Healthy Living on Tuesday, September 9
Seminar to Provide Practical Strategies for Improving Daily Quality of Life with Parkinson's Disease
WHAT: “Occupational Therapy and Parkinson’s: Tips for Healthy Living” is the first in a series of six PD ExpertBriefings, or online seminars, hosted by the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF). It will address the ways in which occupational therapy may benefit people living with Parkinson’s disease. Health care professionals may apply for continuing education credits.
WHO: The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation® (PDF®) supports the scientific research and ideas that will improve the lives and futures of people who are touched by Parkinson’s disease. Since its founding in 1957, PDF has invested more than $149 million in research, education and advocacy programs. This PD ExpertBriefing will be co-presented by occupational therapists, Sue Berger, Ph.D., O.T.R/L., B.C.G., F.A.O.T.A. of Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College in Boston, MA, and Linda Tickle-Degnen, Ph.D., O.T.R/L., F.A.O.T.A. of Tufts University in Medford, MA.
WHY: As many as one million Americans live with Parkinson’s disease, a chronic and progressive movement disorder for which there is no cure. An effective approach to treating Parkinson’s disease involves not only medications (which can ease, but not reverse symptoms) but also complementary strategies such as occupational therapy. This seminar will provide an overview of how occupational therapy can help people with Parkinson’s disease to maintain independence as it relates to self-care, leisure activities and employment.
