Town Manager Steve Ledoux explained under the town charter, selectmen must transmit a recommended budget to the Finance Committee 60 days prior to the April 4 Town Meeting, so the meeting was the last before the deadline.

When Ledoux presented his recommended budget last December, it was a for a total spending package of $32.86 million, including the operational budget of $32.37 million, subsidies of $247,000 and capital spending of $242,055. This was a 2.82 percent increase over fiscal 2016, which ends June 30.

The $247,000 in subsidies recommended by Ledoux includes $245,000 for the town’s transportation program and $2,000 for the Cultural Council.

“This year is the second year where there’s no subsidy for (the Acton Nursing Service) since it was put into the general fund, and we had no subsidy for ambulance because at this point it has a pretty healthy fund balance,” said Ledoux.
