REPRESENTATIVE BENSON, SENATOR ELDRIDGE APPOINTED TO BOTTLE DEPOSIT LAW SUBCOMMITTEE

BOSTON--- Representative Jennifer Benson (D-Lunenburg)  and Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) were recently appointed to serve on a bottle law deposit subcommittee tasked with the objective of working out a compromise on bottle deposit law expansion.

"I have worked on the Bottle Bill as far back as 2009, when the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy was able to reach a compromise and give a favorable report of an updated Bottle Bill,” stated Representative Benson (D-Lunenburg). “I want to thank Chairman Keenan for appointing me to the Bottle Bill subcommittee. As a co-sponsor of the current Bottle Bill (H2943/S1588), I am hopeful we will be able to do the same on the subcommittee, and produce an updated bottle deposit law that will positively impact the environment.”

“I am looking forward to working with my colleagues on the Bottle Bill subcommittee, and I appreciate Senator Downing appointing me to the subcommittee,” said Senator Eldridge (D-Acton), who is a co-sponsor of H2943/S1588, the Updated Bottle Bill. “If we are able to expand the existing bottle deposit law to encompass additional beverages we will see increased recycling, and this would be an important step in further protecting our environment.”
