Former Maynard Firefighter MacGillivary Found Dead in Maynard Home

MacGillivary was recently arrested and charged with the rape of a child back in 1991.

MAYNARD, MA—A former Maynard firefighter who was recently arrested on charges of child rape passed away in his Mill St. home in Maynard Tuesday evening.

Police responded to an unresponsive male on Mill St., who was later identified as James MacGillivary, and he was transported to Emerson Hospital. He was pronounced dead just after midnight Wednesday.

Police say that MacGillivary's death is not considered suspicious. He was 59 years old.

On Feb. 25, authorities arrested MacGillivary and charged him with the rape of a child with force stemming from an alleged incident in 1991. MacGillivary was placed on leave on Feb. 5 after allegations first surfaced.

Police say that no further information is being released at this time.
