Minuteman Asks for 180-Day Extension to Gain Support for New School: Report

The new Minuteman school had to win local support by June 16 under agreement with the building authority.

ARLINGTON, MA—Minuteman Regional School District Superintendent Edward Bouquillon has asked for an additional 180 days to win local support after Belmont Town Meeting struck down the proposal to pay for a new Minuteman High School.

According to a report by the Boston Globe, Bouquillon sent a letter to the Massachusetts School Building Authority last week asking for an additional 180 days to gain more support for the $144.9 million project. Under an agreement with the building authority, the district had to win local approval by June 16.

The building authority is contributing about $45 million to the new school, according to the report.

Belmont Town Meeting voted 141-81 on May 4 in opposition of funding the project. All member Minuteman towns must support the new project.
