South Acton Train Station Advisory Committee Recommends Parking Price Increase

Do you agree with a parking fare increase at South Acton Train Station?

ACTON, MA—Parking at South Acton Train Station could become a bit more costly after the South Acton Train Station Advisory Committee recommended an increase of parking fares on June 3. 

According to the recommendation submitted by committee chairman David Martin, there is a recommended an increase from $2.50 to $5.00 per day to the Board of Selectmen on June 3. The committee also recommended that the $5 base rate keeps steady for five years, and that the town keeps the current types of parking rates in each designated area. 

Lisa Tomyl—the Executive Assistant to Town Manager Steve Ledoux—told Patch that the Board of Selectmen are planning to discuss the fare increases at a future meeting.

In the recommendation, the Martin cited that it had been over 10 years since parking rates were increased, and that the new $5 rate is required to cover expenses, as well as potential acquisitions of new parking. 

The recommendation also noted that some residents felt it would be a "double whammy," with MBTA fares set to increase on July 1. Acton's Town Engineer and Director of Public Works Cory York was not immediately available for comment.

A recommendation from the Acton Department of Public Works also affirmed the $5 recommendation for 12 hours of parking.
