Special Town Meeting November 12
Acton Nursing Service's fate will be decided at the Thursday, Nov. 12 STM

There is a Special Town Meeting in Acton called for Wednesday night, November 12, 2014. The meeting will start at 7 pm in the usual place, the ABRHS Auditorium, which is at the back entrance to the High School off Hayward Rd. I expect there to be plenty of parking available.
If you are a registered voter and want to vote on whether or not to keep the Acton Nursing Service, I would urge you to attend this meeting. But be forewarned, do not expect balanced information to fully educate you on this topic. And if you have questions, be prepared to vote without having your questions adequately answered. If you want to voice your opinion as part of the “debate,” which normal people expect in a public meeting where they will be asked to vote, be prepared to be hurried along, bullied, and thwarted.
Acton Town Meeting has evolved into a rubber-stamp process for most questions, unless there is some controversy. And then the second layer of protection is that those with questions or comments are limited to one question or two minutes. This barely gives one enough time to announce their name and street, let alone make a persuasive argument pro or con. The idea of having a “debate” at Town Meeting is now a pipe-dream. Best you can hope for is to pre-educate yourself and be prepared to vote, and whichever side of the debate has more supporters showing up to vote will be the winner. Few minds can be changed given the format....
