In the first article on Fiscal Conservatism, we described a program where the government gave away freshly printed $100 bills at area supermarkets and shopping malls (See "Free $100 bills" at http://www.actonforum.com/blogs/allenn/free-100-bills). This pretty much accurately describes what the government does now, other than the Santa suits, of course.
The federal government is printing money and handing it out to just about anyone who will take it. This violates every rule that fiscal conservatives have. In this example you can see government waste, debts incurred that will bear future costs, lack of accountability, no needs testing, a program out of control, and hiding the true costs of this program because people taking it think the money is "free." There will be potential economic consequences as well; for example, you could have runaway inflation.
The only one in the story who thought he would suffer was the working guy whose paycheck was being negatively impacted by the program....
