Unidentified Male Struck and Killed by Train in Acton

Wednesday night, an unidentified male who was trespassing was struck and killed by an MBTA train in Acton about 1.5 miles from the South Acton Train Station.

According to a spokesperson from the MBTA, at approximately 6:46 p.m., MBTA Train 431, heading outbound from the South Acton Train Station, struck and killed an unidentified white male who was trespassing. This took place about 1.5 miles north from the South Acton Train Station near 117 Central Street.

According to the MBTA, approximately fifty passengers were evacuated from the train and an MBTA Bus Shuttle was transporting the passengers to the remaining stations.

Brenna Cobleigh, a Littleton resident who was on the train when it happened, said she was waiting on the train for a little over an hour and a half.

“It was a little weird when the train came to a screeching stop,” said Cobleigh. “When that happened, someone came on the speaker and told us it was an emergency. I overheard someone on the transit radio say someone was hit.”

Cobleigh, like many other passengers that evacuated, waited across the street from the stopped train and called for personal rides.

Coming off the train, family members of Cathy Cherico, from Ayer, were waiting to pick her up.

“The train had been stopped since quarter of seven,” said Cherico. “No one really knew what was happening.”

Acton Police, Fire and EMS, along with Transit Police were on scene. Acton Police helped the evacuated passengers cross the street. The train left the scene at 8:22 p.m.

No further information on the unidentified male has been made available at this time. Stay tuned to Acton Patch for more updates.
