UPDATE: Name of MBTA Train Victim Released
It was an Acton resident struck and killed by a commuter rail train in Acton last night.
The person struck and killed by a train Wednesday night was 22-year old Michael Rivero of Robins Street in Acton, according to the Masschusetts Bay Transit Authority. According to the T, Rivero p.m. The incident took place 1.5 miles from the South Acton train station; the train was headed toward Littleton. The T says the case is currently under investigation; they have no answers yet as to whether foul play was involved, if it was a suicide, or if it was an accident. The MBTA's initial report of the incident considered Rivero to be trespassing on the track.
The location of the incident was between Martin Street and Central Street.
Acton Fire Department Captain Michael Lyons deemed the the fatality due to the grave injures, according to the MBTA Transit Police report.

According to that report, “The commuter rail train was accelerating when he [engineer] observed an unknown object in the right-of-way. The engineer stated the track speed between Martin Street and Central Street is 45 mph but he believed he was traveling approximately 35-40. When he recognized it may not have been an animal but a person, he placed the train into an emergency brake application and subsequently made contact with the person.”
At 10:20 p.m., Transit Officials and Acton Police Officials notified the parents of Michael Rivero and later located his vehicle at Jones Field near Martin Street Crossing in Acton.

Medical Examiner’s arrived on scene at 9:28 p.m. and took custody of Rivero and transported him for further forensic examination. The case is actively under investigation.
