VIDEO: Meet Acton's Black Gold Miners

Four 8th grade R.J. Grey students have set out to make Acton aware of the benefits of composting.

Tuesday night, , Nikhil Srinivasan, Aidan Pavao and Akshay Karthik, 8th graders at , gave two presentations to the public on why Acton should start thinking about composting waste. Several residents packed the room during both seminars and Board of Selectmen Chair, Mike Gowing and attended. 

"Composting will help the town decrease its carbon footprint, save the town plenty of money on landfill spending, and provide residents with free fertilizer," wrote , in his most recent blog post.

The group, The Black Gold Miners, were formed to take part in the national Siemens Challenge, We Can Change the World Project, where the group was tasked with picking a subject matter that would help benefit the town. The group will be meeting with the Board of Selectmen on Februrary 27 to make the town aware of the benefits of composting.
