When Does School Start in Acton?

Here's a look at some dates on the Acton-Boxborough Public Schools calendar, and some other helpful back-to-school tips for parents.

ACTON, MA — Parents, you've almost survived the summer. All Acton-Boxborough students will be back in school by Sept. 1. The return is immediately followed by another break, with no school Fri., Sept. 2 or Mon., Sept. 5 (Labor Day).

Grades 6, 7, and 9 will be back in classes on Aug. 31 for a full day of school. Grades 8, 10, 11 and 12 will be back in classes on Sept. 1. Blanchard, Douglas and Gates students will attend school from 8:40 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. on Aug. 31. Kindergarten will be in session from 8:40 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.

Conant, McCarthy-Towne and Merriam schools will be in session from 9:20 a.m. to 3:30 p.m on Aug. 31. A.M. Kindergarten will be in session from 9:20 a.m. to noon.

Gone are the days of Labor Day marking the start of the school season. Tell the kids not to complain - many schools across the country start before the end of August, and some even in July, according to CNN. And parents, no complaining from you either - some schools don't welcome back students until well into September.
