ANDOVER, MA — Over 1,200 residents turned out for a Special Town Meeting held June 16. They voted to approve one of the articles on the warrant and rejected others.

Town Meeting approved an article that authorized $5 million for Phase II of the Chandler Road Recreation Area, according to a statement from the town.

The project will include a new multi-use synthetic turf field, field lighting, a walking and running trail, a playground, and other recreational amenities at the 44-acre recreation area. The land, which is occasionally called the "Park Property," was acquired by the town in 2022.

Voters rejected two articles related to synthetic turf fields. This included a two-year moratorium on future projects and proposed conditions on the town’s procurement of synthetic turf.

Town Meeting also disapproved an article that would have designated safety zones with speed limits of 20 miles per hour.
