Andover Awarded Federal Grant For Decarbonizing
The town has teamed up with other area communities in an effort to decarbonize public housing.
ANDOVER, MA — The town has been selected to receive a $360,740 grant through the U.S. Department of Energy.
The town will receive the grant through the Energy Future Grants program, which will be used for "establishing strategies to decarbonize public housing units," according to a statement.
A total of $27 million in financial and technical assistance was awarded through the program last week. Andover joined with other area towns to form the Merrimack Valley Clean Energy Coalition in pursuit of the funds.

Massachusetts has the most units of public housing per capita in the nation, yet the state faces challenges due to the aging condition of these units, hindering clean energy projects. The coalition is assessing barriers to installing clean energy solutions in local housing authority properties and will provide resources to address funding and capability gaps, according to the statement.
