Andover Fire Rescue Puts Out House Fire on Rocky Hill Road

Fire engulfed the first floor of a three-story wood-frame house on Rocky Hill Road, early Monday morning.

ANDOVER — Andover Fire Rescue put out a house fire on Rocky Hill Road early Monday morning, the department said.

The department responded to a report at 40 Rocky Hill Road around 12:20 a.m. and found that a fire had engulfed the first floor of a three-story wood-frame house.

Neighbors told the firefighters that the family was not home. The two residents are temporarily displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross, family and friends.

Firefighters contained the flames to the first floor and had it under control by 1 a.m., the department said. Crews remained on the scene until around 7 a.m.

"The first floor sustained extensive fire, smoke and water damage," according to the department news release. "The rest of the home sustained significant smoke damage throughout and water damage to the basement as well. Chief Mansfield estimates that about $600,000 worth of damage was done."

There were no civilian injuries. One firefighter was treated on the scene and another was treated and released from a nearby hospital.

The Tewksbury, Lawrence and Methuen Fire Departments responded to the scene.

The fire department, the police department and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
