Andover police said a 16-year-old was struck by a car and seriously hurt on Main Street Monday night.

ANDOVER, MA — A 16-year-old Andover girl was struck by a car and seriously hurt Monday night on Main Street, authorities said. The crash happened in the area of 195 Main St. at about 6:35 p.m., police said. First responders found the girl lying on the road with serious leg injuries.
Due to the severity of the girl's injuries, a medical helicopter was requested. It landed at the Doherty Middle School parking lot and the girl was loaded inside and transported to a Boston-area hospital. She's expected to survive, police said.
"A preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was walking across Main Street in a crosswalk when she was struck," Andover police Chief Patrick Keefe said in a statement. "The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. The incident is under investigation."
