Beauty on the Wing: The Life Story of the Monarch Butterfly
Andover Garden Club Presents Meeting and Lecture by Author, Landscape Designer, Illustrator and Photo/Film Journalist Kim Smith
The monarch butterfly’s life story in one of adaption and survival. In this presentation, Kim Smith will use narrated film and discussion to explain the Monarch’s life cycle, current state of the butterflies’ migration, and reasons why the species is in sharp decline. She will offer positive steps that individuals and communities can take to help the Monarch recover from the devastating effects of habitats loss and climate change.
Author, landscape designer, illustrator and photo/film journalist Kim Smith is the proprietor of Kim Smith Designs (https://kimsmithdesigns.wordpress.com/), a landscape- and interior-design firm. She specializes in connecting the home to the outside and in creating gardens for people and pollinators--butterflies, hummingbirds, songbirds, and bees–-with a focus on wildflowers, native trees and shrubs, and fragrant plants. She designed the butterfly courtyard garden at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, and, working with architect Chris Muskopf of Cambridge Seven Associates, designed the butterfly gardens for the award-winning Gloucester HarborWalk.
When: Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 10:00 AM. The event begins with social time and refreshments, followed by a business meeting. Kim Smith’s presentation will begin at approximately 11:00 AM.

Founded in 1927, the Andover Garden Club (www.andovergardenclub.org) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that encourages the study and practice of horticulture, landscape design, and floral design; aids in the beautification of the town of Andover; and helps protect and conserve natural resources. A member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc., and National Garden Clubs, Inc., the club provides both financial and hands-on support to a variety of municipal, educational, and environmental organizations throughout the region.
