Lawrence Police Officer Hit By Vehicle, 2nd Officer Fired Gun

The Lawrence Police Department was responding to a reported breaking and entering in South Lawrence, the department said.

LAWRENCE, MA — A Lawrence police officer was injured when he was pinned by a vehicle Monday night, the Lawrence Police Department said. Another officer fired on the vehicle.

The police were responding to a reported breaking and entering in South Lawrence, when they found a vehicle attempting to leave the area at high speed, the department said. That vehicle hit and pinned the officer.

The pinned officer's leg and foot were seriously injured, but the injuries were not life threatening. He was treated by paramedics and EMTs, taken to Lawrence General hospital by ambulance, then airlifted to a Boston hospital.

The Department said the second officer "discharged his weapon in the direction of the vehicle" but did not say whether anyone was injured by the shots.

A car chase followed and the suspect's vehicle crashed a short distance away, according to the police narrative. As of early Tuesday morning, one suspect was in custody and police were searching for additional suspects.
