PA Driver Charged In Andover Flying Ice Crash
The truck driver was cited for carrying an unsecured load, which carries a $200 fine.

ANDOVER, MA -- Massachusetts State Police issued a citation to a 34-year-old truck driver from Williamsport, PA. for carrying an unsecured load. Police say a large chunk of ice flew off his tractor trailer Thursday afternoon, smashing through the windshield of a car and injuring a six-year-old girl. The girl was taken to Lawrence General Hospital with minor injuries, where she was treated or released.
The charge carries a fine of $200. Police said the driver was unaware that anything was on top of the truck or that the ice had fallen off as he traveled on Interstate 495 North in Andover around 1:45 pm Thursday.
Massachusetts does not classify failure to remove snow and ice from a vehicle as a specific violation, but state police often use civil infraction like carrying an unsecured load to enforce snow removal.
