Phillips Academy Teacher Engaged In Sexual Misconduct
An investigation by an independent law firm found that Victor Svec engaged in sexual misconduct with a student in the late 1980s.

ANDOVER, MA -- Phillips Academy Russian language instructor Victor Svec engaged in sexual misconduct with a student in the late 1980s, according to an investigation by an independent law firm. In a letter to parents and students, the prestigious, Andover-based prep school said it has barred Svec from campus and from all Andover events, and he will not receive emeritus status or any other privileges or benefits from the school.
Additional details about the incident or the investigation conducted by Sanghavi Law Office were not released by the school. Svec took a leave of absence when allegations were first raised in February.
"We are deeply sorry for the harm caused by this faculty member's misconduct, Head of School John Palfrey said in the letter, which was sent on Monday. "The Board of Trustees and I are grateful that a former student had the courage and will to come forward to recount a painful and traumatic experience that occurred decades ago."

Last year the school disclosed four allegations of sexual misconduct, three involving teachers and one involving students. That followed 2016, allegations that during the 1970s and 1980 five former teachers engaged in sexual misconduct toward students.
