Police: Drunk Driver Left License Behind After Crash Into Building

The 23-year-old Andover man was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and negligent operation.

A 23-year-old Andover man, who is a Wheaton College student, is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Attleboro District Court on operating under the influence of liquor and other charges in connection with an early morning crash into a building on Saturday.

Norton Police received a report of a vehicle that crashed into a building around 4 a.m. Saturday at 108 West Main Street. The caller said that a black SUV had crashed into the building and fled the area.

The building shares a parking lot with 110 West Main Street, a series of condominium units known for off-campus housing of Wheaton College students, which the Norton Police Department has received several calls for loud parties and general disturbances.

Officers responded to the scene to investigate the incident. The Massachusetts registration plate to the vehicle was left at the scene, allowing officers to determine the make and model of the vehicle. The vehicle, a black Nissan Pathfinder, was located shortly after by Norton Patrolman Steven Loud, while working a paid detail in a Wheaton College parking lot.

The driver, Hammad Hassan, 23, of Andover, Mass.,, and a Wheaton College Student, was placed under arrest by Officer Loud and Officer Joshua Archer.

Hassan was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Hassan was released on $250 cash bail.
