Police Officer Struck by a Landscaping Truck

The officer was directing traffic at intersection of Route 28 and Route 133 because the traffic lights were not functioning.

UPDATED: A police officer who was working a traffic detail suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning after being struck by a landscaping truck while working a traffic detail in Shawsheen Square.

At 10:12 a.m., the officer was directing traffic at intersection of Route 28 and Route 133 because the traffic lights were not functioning, according to authorities. National Grid was on scene at the time to fix the problem.

The officer remained conscious and alert. He has minor injuries and was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen by the Andover Fire Department as a precaution.

“This appears to be an accident,” Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe said. “We are grateful the officer was not seriously injured.”

Meanwhile, the installation of a new gas main on Shawsheen Road began last week.
