Breaking News! Union vote costs taxpayers nearly $1 million
Andover School Unions vote down health insurance savings.
If you still need a reason to show up on Monday night for Town Meeting, then here it is! Today's Eagle Tribune breaks the story in this article —
Union vote costs Town nearly $1M,
Andover: Union kills health insurance switch.
The article states, "The switch (from Blue Cross to Tufts Health Plan) would have saved around $930,000, with 25 percent of that going back to the employees."
Eric Teichert, president of the firefighters union, is quoted as follows:

“The firefighters were adamantly in favor of going to Tufts and away from Blue Cross,” Teichert said. “The reason is that the town would save close to $1 million. For us to walk away and leave that on the table ... it would save the town money and it would save us money.” But, he said, the town unions “were outnumbered by the votes” of the school unions."
Last year, TownofAndover.com's proposed amendment to cut the Health Insurance budget by $1.1 million lost by only 87 votes. With your help, we can show that we expect real change.
