Special Town Meeting Approves New Andover Fire Station
The current station is 128 years old and "would be condemned" if it were a private residence, Town Manager Andrew Flanagan said.

ANDOVER, MA -- Andover Special Town Meeting approved a proposal to spend $8 million to build a new Ballardville fire station. The single article on the warrant was passed by a two-third majority and calls for using $1 million from free cash and borrowing $7 million in the bond market to cover the cost of construction. The current station at 161 Andover Street is 128 years old.
"If it was a private residence, it would be condemned, " Andover Town Manager Andrew Flanagan said at Tuesday night's session. The new station will be two stories and have 11,383 square feet of space, as well as three bays. The discussion to replace the station has been ongoing in Andover since at least the early 1980s.
