ANDOVER, MA – A tow truck driver was killed in a multi-car crash on I-495 in Andover overnight, state police said. The crash happened around 10:55 p.m., shutting down the southbound side of the highway near the I-93 exit.
At least five cars were involved and multiple people were hospitalized. State police said 41-year-old Daniel Coady, of North Andover, was struck while outside his truck at the scene. Coady, who worked for his family's Lawrence-based company, Coady's Towing, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said the truck was responding to an original two-car crash when a 2007 Pontiac G6 struck an unoccupied BMW in the breakdown lane. The car hit the left side of the tow truck and the driver, who was standing beside it loading a car from the earlier crash.
