Andover Garden Club Holds Meeting
At the March 1 Andover Garden Club meeting, Amherst tree warden Alan Snow will discuss planting and sustaining the urban forest.
In an ironic twist, given his last name, guest speaker Alan Snow’s 2015 Andover Garden Club presentation was snowed out. But the club persevered, and horticulturist and arborist Snow is now scheduled to discuss the relationship and interdependence between people and their community trees on March 1, 2016. This fascinating presentation will focus on the beauty and wonder of trees, and offer a timely approach to planting and sustaining the urban forest.
As tree warden for Amherst, Massachusetts, Snow has oversight for the green spaces throughout the town, which has earned Tree City USA status 26 times. Snow’s commitment and dedication to the protection of public trees has guided a steady and visionary approach to cultivating the urban forest. Snow has also been instrumental in Asian longhorn beetle mitigation and the replacement of 15,000 trees affected by the pest in Worcester. In 2013, he was voted Tree Warden of the Year by his peers in the Massachusetts Tree Wardens & Foresters Association.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at 10:00 AM at South Church, 41 Central Street, Andover MA. The event begins with social time followed by a brief meeting, then the program. A $10 donation is requested for guests (includes refreshments).
