Two Cats Perish in Two-Alarm House Fire

The cause and origin of fire is under investigation by local and state fire officials.

Two people were displaced after a two-alarm blaze tore through the upstairs of a two-and-a-half story house at 3 Andover Street on Wednesday morning. The person who was at home called 911 at 10:41 a.m. to report the fire, according to Fire Chief Michael B. Mansfield.

The cause and origin of fire is under investigation by local and state fire officials, Chief Mansfield said, but appears to have started on the second floor of the multi-family house.

Chief Mansfield said the fire quickly spread throughout the second floor and up to the attic because of the type of construction in the building. Damages are preliminarily estimated to be at least $300,000, according to Chief Mansfield. Tewksbury and Lawrence provided mutual aid.
