85-Seat Coffee Shop Planned for Arlington Center

The Italian-style coffee house franchise has locations across the Greater Boston area, and is applying to open in the former CVS space.

ARLINGTON, MA — A new location of a European-style coffee house franchise is applying to open just a few doors down from Starbucks in the former CVS Pharmacy space. The Arlington Board of Selectmen will review an application for a common victualler's license for a new Caffe Nero location during its Dec. 12 meeting.

Submitted by Michael Ford-Deegan, the proposed location for the coffee shop is 311-321 Broadway. According to the application, Caffe Nero plans to be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days per week.

The proposed space will seat 85 people, with 77 indoor seats. The coffee shop will employ approximately 10 people. The application further indicates that there will be outdoor seating.

The Caffe Nero franchise owns and operates approximately 800 stores worldwide, and operates eight stores in Massachusetts as of Nov. 10. There are nine Caffe Nero locations in Massachusetts including Cambridge, Boston, Jamaica Plain, Wellesley and Andover.

In addition to European-style coffee offerings, Caffe Nero's menu includes smoothies, breakfast offerings, European-style lunch sandwiches, salads and sweets.

The Board of Selectman will hear the proposal on Dec. 12. The meeting begins at 7:15 p.m.
